Who else bends over backwards to care for EVERYONE ELSE — family, neighbors, community — but yourself? Who else struggles with berating yourself for being selfish, or worrying others won’t like you if you say no?
If I’m honest, doing so I often wind up feeling stressed, depleted, frustrated, almost resentful — NOT the me I want to be. The me I know I can be: the me I am when I feel cared for, rested, refreshed, restored.
I’ve discovered that setting some boundaries and prioritizing even a little self-care — a nervous-system reset, walking in nature, going dancing, stretching — restores me to the me I want to be: fun-loving, generous, helpful.
Why do we consider it “indulging” in self-care rather than the necessity it is? Where in your body do you tend to hold your stress? Tell e — and let’s release it.
