Tight neck and shoulders are rarely just a neck problem. They’re posture, breath, and stress arriving in the same place. Here’s the gentle routine from my free video.
Why your shoulders carry your stress
When your body senses threat, real or a full inbox, it braces: shoulders rise, jaw sets, breath moves up into the chest. Do that for enough hours a day and your neck muscles never get the message to let go. Stretching alone doesn’t fix it, because the bracing pattern comes right back.
The six-minute sequence
1. Unload the shoulders (1 minute)
Sit tall, inhale your shoulders up toward your ears, hold for three seconds, then exhale and let them drop completely. Repeat five times. You’re teaching the difference between held and released.
2. Gentle half-circles (2 minutes)
Drop your chin toward your chest and slowly roll your ear toward one shoulder, then back through center to the other side. Never force the range. Let the breath set the pace.
3. Open the front line (2 minutes)
Clasp your hands behind your back, straighten your arms gently, and lift your chest. Neck tension is often chest tightness in disguise, because rounded posture pulls the head forward and the neck works overtime to hold it up.
4. Finish with the exhale (1 minute)
One hand on your chest, breathe in for four, out for eight, five rounds. This is the piece most routines skip, and it’s why the release actually lasts.
